What is Seed Expeller?
Seed expeller is the shell and flesh of the seed that gets left over after oil has been extracted. Sometimes also known as cake or meal, rapeseed expeller is a staple food source for most livestock in the UK, including chickens, cows, goats, and pigs.
The Conventional
Process
Most of the expeller supplied to the agricultural industry comes from refining factories where it’s been stripped of any oil content by companies who want as much of the oil as possible to sell for food. This intensive process leaves a colourless, dry flake with no oil content whatsoever.
Our Unique Cold Pressed
Seed Expeller
Our expeller is different because we cold press seed at lower temperatures. We always leave around 10% of the oil in the expeller, which makes our expeller a great source of fat for animal feed rations. It’s better value financially and nutritionally, because it saves feed mills from having to add as much imported palm or soya oil to feed to get the required nutritional content.
Benefits of Our Seed Expeller
Our comprehensive contract seed pressing services include:
Nutritional Value
Contains approximately 10% residual oil, providing a valuable source of fat for livestock feed.
Cost-Effective
Reduces the need for additional imported fats like palm or soya oil, offering a more economical feed option.
High-Quality Feed
The retained oil content enhances the nutritional profile of the feed, supporting healthier livestock.
Production and
Quality Assurance
We produce more than 8,000 tonnes of seed expeller per year, making it the largest product by weight that we produce. Every stage of our supply chain and production process has been assured by the Red Tractor and Scottish Quality Crops, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.
Rapemeal:
A Valuable Byproduct
Rapemeal is a byproduct of the cold pressing process, produced when the oil is extracted from seeds. It is a high-protein, high-energy feed used to partially replace soya bean meal in animal diets. Rapemeal is rich in amino acids and essential nutrients, making it an excellent source of feed for livestock, including cows, pigs and poultry. Rapemeal can also be used to create briquettes that are widely compatible with steam run trains, boats and other vehicles, providing a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels such as coal.
Benefits of Rapemeal
High Protein Content
Rapemeal contains more than 30% protein, making it a valuable source of nutrition for animals.
Cost-Effective
Rapemeal is a cost-effective alternative to soya bean meal, helping to reduce feed costs.
Sustainable
Using rapemeal supports sustainable agricultural practices by utilising byproducts that would otherwise go to waste. It can also form briquettes which can be used as an alternative to fossil fuels in steam run trains and boats.
